- - Responsible for the research, specification, design and development of materials to advance technologies to improve the performance, durability and costeffectiveness of processes and products.
- Plan, execute and review new products plans (NPI/FA) and make recommendations for materials selection based on design objectives, such as its machine capability, strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity, cost/ etc.,
- Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives, costs implications of materials used and alternatives, environmental issues and wastages, and select the best combination.
- Assess materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability), conduct tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality.
- Develop prototypes with use of new materials, in consultation with design engineers, production, Sales and Commercial as necessary.
- Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration and analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
- Analyze, detect and recommend solutions to issues may arise either during the manufacturing process or with the finished product (e.g. warpage, expansion/contraction or problems caused by daily wear and tear or change of environment).
- Conduct training on new material products, applications, and/or manufacturing methods for design engineers, team members and customers (if need arises).
- Keep abreast with the latest developments and research in new materials and manufacturing practices; thru suppliers, sub-contractors, seminars, peers, etc.
- Qualification of the new materials ensuring compliance with relevant regulations
- New material quality control plans for incoming inspection
- Materials Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Materials Characterization and others are recorded in the valid company document control system
- Participation in new product development projects, providing timely updates and reporting for the project team and superior
- Carry out any other responsibilities as and when assigned by Superior/ Management.
- Requirements :
- - Degree or Diploma in Polymer, Materials or Metallurgical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably as a Polymer/Materials Engineer
- Knowledge of Engineering Plastic Materials is a strong advantage
- Knowledge in Project Management or Design is an added advantage
- Familiar with the use of analytical statistical tools e.g. SPSS
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office, i.e. Excel, Words, PowerPoint
